Empowering Refugees Through Entrepreneurship: Highlights from NETRefugee Webinars in Finland

At Learning for Integration (LFI), we believe in the power of entrepreneurship to transform lives. That’s why, in October 2024, we hosted two dynamic webinars as part of the NETRefugee project, aimed at equipping refugees and migrants in Finland with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in business.

A Multilingual Approach to Inclusion

The webinars were tailored to meet the needs of Finland’s diverse refugee and migrant communities. The first session, held in English on October 17, brought together participants eager to explore entrepreneurial opportunities. The second session, on October 27, was conducted in Arabic, providing a culturally and linguistically accessible environment for attendees. Together, the webinars engaged nearly 20 participants, fostering a space for learning, discussion, and connection.

Practical Knowledge for Real-World Impact

Both webinars followed a structured yet interactive format:

  • Step-by-step guidance on starting a business in Finland, including registration, taxes, and insurance.

  • Insights into Finnish business culture and employment practices.

  • Engaging activities, such as brainstorming and sharing business ideas, which sparked meaningful discussions.

Attendees found the sessions highly valuable, particularly the hands-on advice for navigating Finland’s entrepreneurial landscape.

Key Takeaways and Next Steps

Participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, highlighting the practical focus of the webinars. However, they also suggested some additions to improve the Entrepreneurship Guide further, such as:

  • Simplifying complex terms for better accessibility.

  • Adding more details on startup costs and available support networks.

  • Including marketing tips, particularly for leveraging social media.

These insights will shape the final guide, ensuring it’s even more effective in helping refugee entrepreneurs thrive.

Looking Ahead

The success of these webinars demonstrates the vital role entrepreneurship can play in fostering self-reliance and economic growth for refugees. As we refine the Entrepreneurship Guide, we’re excited to continue supporting these journeys and empowering individuals to turn their business dreams into reality.
